According to Cleveland clinic Cosmetic surgery is a procedure to enhance, alter or reshape specific parts of your body. Cosmetic surgery is very common. Worldwide, the number of cosmetic procedures performed in 2022 was 11% higher than in 2021. In the United States, there were over 1,500,000 surgical cosmetic procedures and over 5,500,000 nonsurgical procedures performed. (Cleveland Clinic ,2023)

In recent years, the impact of social media on the popularity and demand for plastic surgery procedures has been significant. Platforms like Instagram, TikTok and Facebook have become powerful tools for promoting plastic surgery services and showcasing before and after transformations. (American Society of Plastic Surgeons, 2023)
Social media has become the number one method of advertising in plastic surgery, and that’s a big shift from the way that used to be. People that are social-media savvy, I think they position those very well to reach people about the services that they offer. To have a social media presence takes a lot of effort. You have to post things that are thoughtful, you have to post regularly, you have to have something that makes people want to see you again. So, it’s not just having a good before and after picture, it’s having something that can make you stand out from other people. And it’s a level of marketing creativity that is really different from the way it used to be.

If you’re thinking about having a cosmetic procedure, it’s important to do your research and find out about what will happen. All cosmetic procedures have some risks, whether you’re having a surgical procedure, like breast implants, or a non-surgical procedure, like dermal fillers or Botox. Many patients report satisfaction with their results however, there is also a risk of disappointment if outcomes do not meet expectations. This dissatisfaction can lead to emotional distress. Body image issues, while cosmetic surgery aims to improve body image for many individuals, it may also exacerbate existing body image issues for some patients who might still feel self-conscious despite undergoing procedures.
Lifestyle Changes:
Post-surgery recovery often can lead to the change of a patient’s lifestyle. Patients may need to limit physical activities during recovery periods, which can affect their daily routines and overall lifestyle. Ongoing care may be required after surgery to monitor healing and manage any complications that arise. This made a lot of people to change they way of living to copy with the existing circumstances.
Social Considerations:
The decision to undergo cosmetic surgery can have social ramifications. Perception by others, might face varying reactions from friends, family, and society regarding their decision to alter their appearance surgically.
